- OOC: Absolutely. It's not even heavy. It's 12" wide x 8" tall x 6" deep.Taryk wrote:- OOC: How big is the chest? Is it small enough to pass down to someone?
The small chest jingles, like it's full of coins, when Taryk tests its weight.

Then, hearing Felix’s comment about old Nalkor having the Morbus Malum, she pauses again. “Again, I think it may be safer to leave the books up here and continue on for Nalkor to get the spexial book….we can always rush these ones back to town at the end.” Still, she begins a cursory index to see how man books match.

Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
Shrouded in shadows and weary of traps, Drakor leaves his companions behind as he searches the left passageway (the tunnel from which the shaman emerged, earlier). A few yards down the hall, he notices that the walls here are painted: primitive cave art of what looks like goblins fighting dwarves and elves. Oddly, there is a literal "hole" in each of the painted goblins mouths. He's not sure if the holes were drilled after the wall was painted, or if the images were painted "around" the holes.Drakor wrote:Drakor will engulf himself in a dark cloud, he will stealthily and cautiously approach the left hall first looking out for traps and searching for valuables and secret openings.
- Roll (stealth) shadow magic (+2): 2 + 2 = 4
- Roll (perception): 4
Standing where the "artwork" starts, Drakor can see that it goes on for another four or five yards. A few more yards beyond that, there looks to be a wooden door.

Jasmine quickly counts the books, as she searches for one with the nefarious title. She counts a total of sixty-four books and scrolls, but none of them are the Morbus Malum. As Jasmine finishes with each crate, Merrill rushes it back to the entrance of the lair, where she stages it for later retrieval.Merrill wrote:Merrill will start dragging boxes back to the cave entrance, enjoying a breath of fresh air before heading back down each time

Taryk passes the small chest down. "Hey, what'd'ya think, Jaz? Can you bust this thing open?"

Drakor will return back and will do the same down the passage to the right.Malazek wrote:Shrouded in shadows and weary of traps, Drakor leaves his companions behind as he searches the left passageway (the tunnel from which the shaman emerged, earlier). Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
The passage to the right is noticeably wider than the others and (unlike the last hall) it is bereft of artwork. It leads Drakor to what looks like a natural cavern with a small underground pond. A great many stalactites hang from above, while stout stalagmites crowd the perimeter of the cave. There is no light source to speak of.Drakor wrote:Drakor will return back and will do the same down the passage to the right.

As Drakor sneaks into the cavern, he notices a single pile of straw and fur on the ground, not too far from the pond. It is stained with blood and surrounded by random, scattered bones.

Jasmine sets the little box on the ground--one of the goblins' bedrolls (a non-diseased one, if possible, to be more precise)--and raises her shield overhead. She counts in her head before bringing the shield down straight upon the small chest, hoping the noise will have been muffled sufficiently by the goblins' roll.TheDeadWillWalk wrote:Taryk passes the small chest down. Not sure if this would be more of a check or an attack roll but here goes.

Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
Jasmine strikes the chest as hard as she can. Her efforts don't initially seem to be doing much, but after a few more tries, it seems like she is weakening the chest. A few more strikes, a few more disappointments. Just when she feels like giving up, the last strike produces the familiar sound of snapping wood.Jasmine wrote:Jasmine sets the little box on the ground--one of the goblins' bedrolls (a non-diseased one, if possible, to be more precise)--and raises her shield overhead. Removing the lice-infested bedroll, she finds that the chest was full of coins! Gold, silver, and copper from cities all over the region!
- OOC: Doing it this way, it would be an attack. Because the chest has an effective armor rating of 3, the shield can really only damage it on a critical hit. Nonetheless, getting through it is inevitable. Jasmine does eventually break the chest open.
- OOC: For future reference, Taryk can use his burglary skill to "pry" open chests, just as easily as he can use it to pick-locks. He would just need a lever of some sort (like a crowbar, maybe). Perhaps he can pick-up a crowbar at the market, later?
- OOC: When somebody gets around to counting the coins, there are exactly 198 coins. That's 28 coins for each of you, plus 2 coins extra.
Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
“Nice little haul for us here,” Jasmine says—“we’d best just dole this out now instead of stickin’ it in the wagon. With it bein’ all loose and already counted out.” She makes sure that each member has their fair share, then pockets her own.
She’ll help Merrill get the books ready for easy access when they need it. “But…but I’m confused. Do we even need to continue on here? Nalkor told Felix that, if he survives, to meet him in Dockin Town. Felix, are you friends with this Nalkor? I have the feeling he isn’t just going to give the book back to us…what do you know, and what do you say we do?”

- OOC: What does she do with the extra 2 coins? Does she keep them? Hand them to Felix (who was missing 2, already)? Toss 'em on the ground? Toss 'em in the wheelbarrow?Jasmine wrote:She makes sure that each member has their fair share, then pockets her own.

"You're short, m'pal? I mean...short of money? I mean, short of money too?" Jasmine scratches her head awkwardly. "Here's a couple extra, you'd best take these to keep us all square."

"I think we should go on. I don't like leaving a job half done."
Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
"Thanks again," Felix said as he put away the coins. "...Thought I was going to die down here."
He looked around, "Oh no, Your Grace... Nalkor is definitely not a friend of mine, I assure you; he would hath helped me escape, hath he been. And, I am all for continuation... of slaying and looting these disgusting creatures and their damned lair."
He brushed himself off, "We shall get your beloved book, and Nalkor's demise wilst come nigh soon."

Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
- OOC: It sounds like half the party wants to finish exploring the goblins' lair? Someone pick a direction: left or right?
Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
OOC: I'm good with continuing on as well; just wasn't sure if now was the time to haul these in. Sounds like there may be more books coming, so bomb's away. I'm all for left.

Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
- OOC: There were 65 unsold books in Jonrick's ledger. You found 64. The Morbus Malum was not among them. So, there probably won't be anymore books down here.Jasmine wrote:Sounds like there may be more books coming
Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
- OOC: Unless someone objects, I'll move the party left when I get home from work, this afternoon.
- OOC: Drakor is still to the right. What is Drakor doing?

Re: Adventure #1 -- The Road to Ruin
- OOC: Okay, so a-left we go ...
The party decides to investigate the tunnel from which the shaman emerged earlier.
A few yards down the hall, you all notice that the walls here are painted: primitive cave art of what looks like goblins fighting dwarves and elves. The art work goes on for four or five yards. A few more yards beyond the artwork, you see a wooden door at the very end of the hall.
Taryk leads the way and stops where the artwork starts. He takes a moment to examine it and informs the rest of you that there is a literal "hole" in each of the painted goblins' mouths. He isn't sure why. Nor is he sure if the artwork was painted around existing holes or if the holes were drilled through existing artwork.
There is no sign of Drakor.
