OOC: Talmut preps his usual spell selection, but preps dispel magic an extra time (instead of a second fly). He also casts detect scrying, as usual.

Before leaving the room, Talmut takes the time to cast use Clairvoyance again. He sees the same exact room he saw before. The only difference is that the goblin is gone. It even looks like the orb is in the same place, covered again by an intricate throw.

"Okay...maybe I should fly over as a bird and check out if there are any new spells or magical objects," Elodie suggests. "If there's nothing new, perhaps you can just teleport us directly into the room?" 

If no one objects, she opens the window, transforms into a bird, and flies to the old wizard's house. She will do as she did yesterday, hop from window to window, attempting to get a good sense of what is inside the tower.

Elodie quickly soars over to the Odbart's tower and checks it out. The scene is much the same as it was before, except that many of the lights have been extinguished (probably because it's day time). All of the magical auras are still present, except for the one that Talmut dispelled.
Previous Descriptions wrote:Elodie sees faint auras of abjuration on every window ... strong evidence that magical alarms are in place. Traces of a powerful enchantment aura are also "bleeding" through the walls, suggesting that some sort of supremely powerful magic is at work, here, inside the tower.

There are a lot of windows, but Elodie has no trouble making her way from one to the next. Peeking into each window, she sees a number of relatively mundane rooms (this is a home, after all). She spies a dining hall, a kitchen, a grow room, conservatory, a lounge, a craft studio, a storage room, a den, a drawing room, an observatory, and a library. She sees several bedrooms and a number of small studies. None of the rooms are well-lit. A few candles, left burning, provide the only light.

She does not see the wizard or the orb. She does spot a handful of guards, however, as they make their way around the tower. All of the guards carry stout batons, but seem to be unarmored.

As the guards work their way around the tower, Elodie is able to get a glimpse of what lies beyond the interior doors. It would seem that all of these rooms connect to a central area that houses a single grand stairwell. With her keen powers of perception, she also notices that several of the doors have strange mystical symbols drawn into them. She is unable to discern the properties of the symbols, at this time.

She flies back to the group. "Everything looks exactly as we left it...the spell that Talmut dispelled yesterday is still gone. The guards are still there, but I did not spot the wizard. Shall we teleport?"

Gumphrey remembers Jeremiah's idea from the night before and suggests "We should wait until Odbart heads to his seminar, like Jeremiah said last night. Elodie, can you transform into a bird again and watch for him to leave (if he hasn't left already) ... or maybe fly overhead and try to spot him walking over to the Zoobery Garden?"

"Sure, I can do that." Elodie will transform back into a bird form, chirp at the group, and then fly toward the Zaubereigarten. Once there, she will fly over the streets toward the old man's tower, carefully inspecting the streets to attempt to spot him. If she doesn't spot him, she will find a perch at the tower where she can watch anyone leaving.

About half way between the Zaubereigarten and Odbart's home, she spots Odbart walking toward class. He has three books under one arm and a cane in the opposite hand.

She carefully inspects the old man, making sure he's not carrying the orb with him (thinking that perhaps the orb in the tower could be a decoy).

Elodie does not see anything see the orb or anything big enough to contain the orb. There is a faint aura of transmutation and a moderate aura of enchantment, but nothing strong enough to be emanating from the dreadful orb Talmut described.

Elodie flies back to report her findings. "The old man is on his way to the Zaubereigarten, and I don't think he's carrying the orb with him. So, I agree with Jeremiah. Let's teleport!"

Without further ado ...

Talmut utters a spell and suddenly you are standing somewhere else.
- Teleport Roll = 67 vs. 76 (Success) 

You find yourself in a room that looks very much like the one Talmut described to you last night. That is, a wide room with four stone pillars supporting the ceiling overhead. A stout pedestal stands in the middle of the room with an embroidered throw draped over top of it; there appears to be a round orb-like object under the throw (on top of the pillar). The room is well lit, by a plethora of burning braziers, placed randomly around the room. Book shelves line the perimeter of the room, each holding a variety of books, scrolls, herbs, vials, mirrors, small boxes, and an assortment of other items. A large chest is tucked away in one corner and two heavy work-tables stand between the orb and the sidewalls. Only two exits are visible; one at floor-level and the other at the top of narrow wooden staircase. The floor and ceiling are hardwood, but the walls are masonry. The smell of incense and herbs hangs in the air.

Gumphrey nods and begins to inspect the pedestal.

Meanwhile, Elodie moves over to the work-station to look for "clues." She finds the shackles, unlocked and laying on the floor. She also finds some dried herbs and powders scattered across the table, like somebody forgot to clean up.

Gumphrey turns back toward the group and says "Nothing."

"Nor will you find any," a voice says. You turn to look and see Odbart at the top of the stairs, just as his guards come rushing into the room.

Initiative rolls.

Round 1 ...

Initiative 25
Odbart produces some odd components from his belt pouch and mutters a few strange words. Then, he says "Why don't you all just surrender?"

- Elodie's Will Save = 28 vs. DC 27 (Success)
- Jeremiah's Will Save = 29 vs. DC 27 (Success)
- Talmut's Will Save = 17 vs. DC 27 (Fail)
- Gumphrey's Will Save 23 = vs. DC 27 (Fail)

Jeremiah nimbly moves past the guards, planting one foot on the side of the brazier and vaulting himself onto the steps, here pivots with axe in hand to take a chunk out of Odbart's hide. The magicians blood spills out of the wound, ruining his expensive attire. "Ahhh drat!" the enchanter howls. 

Init 20 and and 19
Talmut and Gumphrey toss their weapons to the floor and drop to their knees. "We surrender! We surrender!" they cry out in unison.

Init 18
The guards quickly surround Elodie, beating her with their stout clubs.
- Attack rolls = 24, 29, 18, 26. Damage rolls = 7, 9, 6, 10 (for a total of 32 Damage)

Only one guard hangs back, to defend Odbart from Jeremiah. Desperately, the man grabs the back of Jeremiah's cloak with one hand. Instinctively, Jeremiah slashes back with his axe, injuring the guard's other arm and forcing him to let go. "Rrrrrg," the man grimaces, cradling his weapon arm with his free hand.
- Jeremiah's OA = 34 to hit, 11 Damage
- Grapple Check = 4 (Fail)

Elodie scrambles onto the table and surrounds her self with a bubble of magic that hedges out most living things ... hopefully, the guards will not be able to reach her now.

Round 2 ...

Init 25
Startled by the Jeremiah's speed of Jeremiah's attack, Odbart quickly (and cautiously) casts a spell to end the assault. He speaks a word that is truly painful to hear ... and then suddenly, Jeremiah's axes slips from his grasp. Staggered and dumbfounded, Jeremiah just stares at him with stupid look on his face.
- Roll to Cast Defensively = 34 (Success)
- No save. Jeremiah is Stunned for 5 Rounds.
- Stunned creatures drop whatever their holding, they lose their Dex bonus to AC, and they take a -2 penalty to AC on top of that!

Init 21
Jeremiah does nothing.

Init 20 and 19
Talmut and Gumphrey do nothing.

Init 18
The guard on the steps swings his club at Jeremiah and yells "Somebody come get this axe!"
- Attack Roll = 23 vs AC 19 (Hit); 6 Damage to Jeremiah.

Three of the other guards rush over to help. One of them picks up Jeremiah's mundane axe. Another picks up his magical axe!

The last guard stays behind glaring menacingly at Elodie. He tests the his might against the antilife barrier, cannot penetrate it. So, he waits.
- Readied Action.

Elodie turns her attention to Talmut, calling upon the spirits to help him find his will to fight again.

Cast Dispel Magic on the spell that is causing Talmut to surrender.

"Talmut, take care of Gumphrey!"

GM Edit: You need to name the specific spell. Spellcraft check to do so = 33 vs. 23 (Success). Mass Suggestion."

With a quick gesture and an secret word, Elodie calls upon the spirits to free Talmut from the Enchanter's spell. They do so. She then shouts to Talmut, to get him back in the fight.
- Dispel magic Check =  vs. 38 vs. 27 (Success).

Round 3 ...

Init 25
When Odbart realizes what just happened, he panics and makes a run for it.

Init 21
Jeremiah does nothing.

Init 20
Talmut dispels the magic that is affecting Gumphrey.
- Spellcraft check = 30 (Success)
- Dispel Check = 37 (Success)

Init 19
Gumphrey races across the floor and buries his dagger into the spine of one of the guards ... with silent scream of agony, the guard slumps to the floor dead.
"Now you deal with me!" Gumphrey shouts.
- Attack roll = 30 (Hit); Damage = 34 (plus 6 points to Gumphrey)

Init 18
The guards react appropriately. The guard on the stairs climbs past Jeremiah and rushes out the door, behind his master. The guard staying close to Elodie moves to attack Talmut. The other two surround Gumphrey (one runs under the stairs, the other runs around); both attack Gumphrey with their stout sticks.
- Attack Roll = 16 (Miss)
- Attack Rolls = 1 and 30 (One Hit); 6 damage to Gumphrey

Elodie's want produces a pillar of fire that incinerates the guard. His charred remains crumbled to the floor, which is now on fire.

Round 4 ...

Init 21
Jeremiah does nothing.

Init 20
Talmut dispels the magic affecting Jeremiah. Jeremiah is no longer stunned.
- Spellcraft check = 27 vs. 19 (Success)
- Dispel Check = 28 vs. 23 (Success)

Init 19
Gumphrey retrieves Jeremiah's non-magical axe from the corpse at his feat and hands it back to Jeremiah.
As he does so, however, the two guards use their clubs to beat him like a common street rat.
- Guards' Opportunity Attacks = 16 and 21 (One Hit); Gumphrey suffers 8 more damage.

Init 18
The guards continue to beat on Gumphrey.
- Guards' Opportunity Attacks = 27 and 28 (Both Hit); Gumphrey suffers 5 and 4 damage. (He's now down 29 HPs)

Init 5
- Elodie is next. Jeremiah is next after that.
