Resolution ...

Kardan pulls on the horses reigns as everyone else works to keep them distracted and calm. With remarkable speed and efficiency, you get the horses un-stuck, and the strangers on their way.

200 XPs each

They wave from their wagon, shouting thanks, just as distant horn calls signal the approaching sea of Lizardmen. Heading deeper into the bog, you rest comfortably, knowing deep down that the strangers stand a decent chance of making it to safety.

If you want to spend healing surges, do so now. Sitting on the wagon.

As the noon sun stares down upon you, you stumble across a lone Eladrin, seemingly lost in the Malbog.
Enter Straegis II ...

To Straegis:

"What ye wanders da bedamned Madbog fer? the dwarfs asks. "Me is WoeVangg, what say ye?"

OOC: Vangg swings his hammer at Straegis! Attack Roll = HIT! ... Damage Roll = 8729! Kidding!!! Welcome Greaseball !!!!

You do seem to be heading deeper into the Malbog; presumably towards 'Agatha's treasure-laden cabin and her greedy sister.

Alex ...
Even with your keen perception, you see nobody other than Straegis and your wagon full of people; though you did get the feeling you are being watched (but people always have that feeling in the Malbog).

WoeVangg ...
You acute intuition tells you a few thing (as per pg. 185 of the PHB). You're pretty sure the newcomer is not illusion, nor is he under any sort of magic charm. He does seem to be trying to get somewhere, either hastily or without being noticed (possibly both; being alone in the Malbog is a very likely explanation for either).

Though surrounded by an orchastra of chirps, bellows, and hoots ... you see very few animals on the journey (other than bugs). The silence is disquieting (see what I did there?).

As evening rolls on, the night air cools, and you find yourself reaching for your cloaks and blankets.
Then, suddenly, the sky is filled with crows. It's really an amazing sight.

Until Davin notices (Pass. Perc. 21) that the crows seem to be circling around YOU.
Davin and Alex both know that, as Carrion birds, Crows usually circle around carcasses.

Agatha must have noticed it too, because she says "Dems my sisters' eyen, flyin' u'p dere. They's awatchin' us."
After a few moments, she adds "We'll prolly be set upon right quick. D'ye wanna look fer cover, 'r face it head on?"

Re: Book One: Chapter One: "Dark Skies"

Post  Malazek on Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:44 pm

Malazek wrote:Complying with Alex's suggestion to 'get moving,' Agatha urges the horses to greater speed. With the wagon barelling through the swamp, the rest of you are keeping a keen watch -- for approaching enemies, for a strategic spot to make your stand, or for a place to seek cover (maybe all of the above).

Agatha quickly loses the path, but fortunately the wagon does indeed float! The horses are neck deep in water, but have no trouble pulling the wagon along the surface. Within in minutes you spot a domed thicket of tangled reeds.

Agatha drives the wagon toward the reed-dome, just as the crows begin to nose dive (Anyone who wants to make a ranged attack, go for it; Davin, give me two, since you had a readied action). After the birds' first attack wave, the wagon reaches the dome, and horses pull it underneath (You get to the dome AFTER your first volley of ranged attacks).

Under the reeds, you find a mound of dry land, just large enough to accomodate the wagon and both horses. Those sitting on the wagon have plenty of room between their heads and the ceiling of the dome (but would be forced to duck if they stood up).

Anyone with the Nature Skill immediately recognizes that the dome is a constructed shelter of some type; though you cannot be sure who built it, or whether or not they still live here.

Despite the cover you've found, the chilly night air nips at you, and you're sure the wet horses must be hurting-cold.
You need a fire for warmth, but you're not yet sure if the fire would set your shelter ablaze, or not.

But, you keep catching glimpses of the birds outside, as they drop down just low enough to peek inside; and then they fly up again. Even though the birds can no longer attack from above, you worry they'll start swarming in before too long.

Initiative Checks and First Round Actions (or other ideas), Please.
