Elodie will tell Jeremiah about the tracks that she has found--she will even show him, if he has time. "Do giants even wear boots?"

After talking with Jeremiah, Elodie and Lindy will head back to the shelter to join in the game of dice.

Upon his discussion with Elodie, Jeremiah will inspect the tracks she found.

Survival (Tracking) 16 + 12 + 3 = 31 **(35)
**If these tracks are indeed giant or giant kin tracks, he will receive an additional +4, giving him +19 instead of +15

"There are numerous types of giants and giant kin, some have been known to wear not only boots but very intricate armor."

GM Edit: OOC: As a ranger, you also add half your level to all tracking rolls. So, I added another +3.

When Talmut creates his shelter, Jeremiah will then take his makeshift shelter down and use it for firewood.

Jeremiah wrote:Upon his discussion with Elodie, Jeremiah will inspect the tracks she found.

Jeremiah inspects the tracks and determines that they were, in fact, made by giant boots.

Judging by the design and craftsmanship of the boots, Jeremiah suspects these tracks were left by Frost giants, but frost giants don't usually come this far south, except in times of war. (Once in a while, a raiding party will make its way into the Boreal Headland, but it seems unlikely that you wouldn't have heard rumors of such a group, as they worked their way south, especially considering their penchant for brutality). So, what are they doing here?

After further consideration, Jeremiah notices that their movements were intended to keep them out of sight; that is, they traveled quickly between the hills, pausing behind the tallest standing ruins. He begins to suspect that these two giants may have been scouts .... but, why scout out lands so far away?

Maybe these two were acting alone; rogue giants, looking to get away from their brethren? That doesn't seem likely; there's plenty of lands between here and their homeland, that would serve their purpose better. Perhaps some ambitious young warlord is looking to expand the scope of his nightly raids? That doesn't seem likely, either, especially considering how many settlements they had to pass to make it this far. So, what could it be? A war party? Better hope not ... although that would explain the region's recent increase in giant activity.

At any rate, you'd best be wary. Frost giants are a lot smarter and stronger than the giants you've faced before. If caught off guard, your party would be easy prey for a single frost giant, let alone a pair of them.

"Heading back to town is a good idea, but I can't leave this damn cat behind."

"Okay, we can do that. But I want Lindy to stay with me," Elodie gives in. She grumbles quietly about the cat for a moment, and then rejoins the dice game.

OOC: So we send Halvar and another guy back, so let's go ahead and rest and get this show back on the road...

So, after a couple of rounds of dice, Halvar and Glory pack up their things, load them on their horses, and head out toward Umbrafall.

The rest of the day is relatively uneventful, filled with games of chance and meals of wild game, as well as a bit of studying.

Between Jeremiah's traps and Elodie's foraging, the party has plenty of food and water for the day.

OOC: Jeremiah's traps also produce 18 silvers' worth of furs.

Sorry 'bout the lack of posts; unfortunately, my excuses pale in comparison to Alpha's, so I will keep them to myself!

Talmut awakes rested and alert, and quickly goes about his morning routinwe, finishing with learning his spells for the day.

"Let us divine the location of our feline friend, and perhaps finish the exploration of this dungeon, as well."

Same deal as yesterday?  I would think, considering that two of our helpers are gone, we should descend with just the 4 of us?

Elodie spends an hour at dawn meditating a short distance away from the shelter, and then rejoins the group.

"Yes, we'll leave Lindy and Flint with the horses, and we can explore--and hopefully find Mr. Mittens." Elodie will light a torch and descend the rope (assuming it was left there overnight). Once Talmut, Jeremiah, and Gumphrey have joined her, she will motion to the doors to the left. "Shall we start here?"

If no one objects, Elodie will open the first door on the left.

Talmut wrote:"Let us divine the location of our feline friend, and perhaps finish the exploration of this dungeon, as well."
"Yeah, let us do that," Gumphrey concurs.
Elodie wrote:"Shall we start here?"
"Yes!" exclaims Gumphrey. "We always start on the left."
Jeremiah wrote:Jeremiah will attempt ... tracking/discerning the direction mittens went.
Jeremiah examines the sandy floor and has no trouble finding the spot where Mittens landed. He follows the cat's paw prints a short distance, before he gets to where they were stomped out by the party a moment afterwards. Determined, he continues in that direction, hoping to locate where the trail picks back up ... but, instead, he finds a new set of tracks: sandals! The sandal tracks start just a few feet from where the paw prints end, but the actual point between them is muffled by the boot prints of the party.

At first, it's difficult to tell how old the sandal prints are, because this place has remained undisturbed for so very long -- they literally could be hundreds of years old -- as he follows the new tracks, he realizes that they entered one of the doors on the left, but then came back out and went through one of the doors on the right. Later, they came back out, and went down the hall toward the golems.

That's where he notices an ominous sign; the sandal prints heading toward the golems were made after the party left that room; indeed, even after the golems were destroyed. Whoever was wearing these sandals was actually down here while the party was just outside, resting in their summoned cottage!
Elodie wrote:Elodie will open the first door on the left.
Elodie finds the first door difficult to open, but after a short struggle, manages to push it open. The light of her torch reveals a hall, made of the same materials as this room, leading off quite a ways. From where she is, she can see that it leads to another room; but she can't make out enough of it to tell how big it might be, or what might be in it.

Jeremiah points out the tracks and the information he discerns from following them to the group.

"Not only has someone been here but they very well still may be here. Lets keep an eye out for mittens or this sandal wearing traveler, I have a feeling one or both may be trouble..."

O.O.C. - Did Jeremiah previously share his suspicion that Mittens was not a cat, and the reasons why?

Talmut frowns at Jeremiah's discovery and warning, and then heads over to the door Elodie has selected, assuming his normal spot in marching order.

Emblazoned by hearing his sobriquet spoken aloud by one of companions, Gumphrey enthusiastically leads the way. The first hall ends in a dusty bedroom, of sorts. The room has the same sandy floors as the rest of this place, as well as the same stone block walls and ceiling.

An ancient bed sits in one corner; dusty blankets still pulled up tight as if the owner intended to return eventually. An old mahogany dresser sits next to the bed, with a large mirror mounted behind it. A wooden chest sits at the foot of the bed and a large mahogany wardrobe sits opposite that. The entire right wall, however, is lined with book shelves, with hundreds of books occupying them. Cobwebs and a thick layer of dust cover every bit of it.

Looking around, Gumphrey notes: "I don't see anything that could be a trap."

Elodie wrote:"Gumphrey, can you take a look at that chest, please?"
Gumphrey takes a closer look at it. "It looks pretty safe. Let me see if I can get it open."
Gumphrey  removes his picks and other tools from their case and gets to work.
Elodie wrote:Elodie will take a moment to attempt to detect any magical auras in the room.
Elodie concentrates on the ebb and flow of magical auras and detects that there is, in fact, something magical in the wardrobe ... but she cannot see it, since the wardrobe is closed.

- OOC: I assume she would open it, since Gumphrey said the room was safe?

Elodie moves to the wardrobe and opens it. She finds a dozen robes of various colors hanging inside. There are also two pairs of pants, a couple of belts, a pair of boots, a big floppy hat, and a pile of folded linen undergarments. The magical aura seems to be coming from one of the robes; a pied robe that seems to have been constructed from patches of various sizes and colors.

Elodie is unable to determine the school of magic contained within the aura.

- OOC: Remember, Knowledge: Arcana is used to identify the aura. After interacting with the item, Spell-craft can be used to identify its properties.
Talmut wrote:Talmut will take the opportunity to check under the bed, mattress, and pillows.
Talmut examines the bed. He discovers a common straw-filled mattress. The pillow, on the other hand, is filled with soft feathers. The blankets are heavy and quilted. The frame itself is rather simple, consisting of unadorned wooden posts and rails with leather supports to keep the mattress in place.

Searching under the mattress, he finds a pewter flask (containing spiced brandy) and small iron key.
Gumphrey wrote:"It looks pretty safe. Let me see if I can get it open."
Gumphrey finally gets the chest open. "Well, alright," he says. "Money!" Looking over at the chest, the rest of the party clearly sees that it's full of coins and other valuables.

- A Map. Inked onto worn leather, it seems to be a map of the Angry Mountains ... including a few of the narrow mountain trails that very few people use.
- A Leather Pouch. The pouch itself contains several small compartments, containing a variety of odd components. (OOC: It's a spell component pouch).
- A Bottle of Spirits. It appears to be very old, but there is no label to tell you when it was bottled, or even what's inside.
- 2500 Gold Coins, minted with an August Wolf on one side and the head of a Monarch on the other. (In total, the coins weigh about 50 pounds and should be worth 4-5000 gp).

Spellcraft check: 14 (4 + 10)
Elodie slips on the robe and immediately sees something unusual ... there are glowing hieroglyphs resting on top of fourteen patches; the remaining patches do not exhibit any sort of designs, but fourteen of them do. It is perhaps notable that she could not see these special patches until she actually donned the robe.

But she still has no idea what it actually does.

After Talmut is done searching the bed, Elodie taps him. "Talmut, what do you think these symbols mean?" She points to one of the hieroglyphs that she can see. When she finds out that Talmut can't see the symbols, Elodie also questions Jeremiah and Gumphrey. "What is wrong with you three? They're all over!" She takes off the robe to get a better look at the hieroglyphs, but... they disappear.

Completely baffled, Elodie turns to Talmut again. "I can't figure out what's going on with this robe. Can you?"
