Verity wrote:"It bears mention as one of Juugug's new brothers, that I have old brothers too. The two eldest fight now in a great war with the dwarves. They revere Bane as you do. Also they are deep in faith of the Raven Queen, as all warriors should be. "

"She too revels in combat for the feast of souls it brings her. It is not Bane but She who ushers great warriors to the great mead halls of Celestia when finally they fall. War without Death would be most inglorious indeed."

"Bane and the Queen are not the same but each makes the other stronger. One is the cart to the other's wheel, the hammer to the other's anvil. Brothers can be like that too. New brothers and old. If Juugug's words and fists failed to make that clear, I hope it's clear now."

Diplomacy: 32+4+2*=38
Gujoy hesitates, considering Verity's argument; uncertianty crosses his features, and then Straegis comes in with the clincher ...

*(+2 Circ bonus to Verity's roll).

*Straegis wrote:"I am Straegis II, and I'm pleased to make your acquaintance." After the tussling between Juguug and his kin, Straegis continues "If we could rest here, it would be appreciated and I'm sure we could make it worth your while." He jingles his coin pouch indicating he would be willing to spare some coins as a token of appreciation. "It has been a grueling day and I'm sure we could all use a few hours to recover before our journey continues."
Gujoy tries to hold onto his resolve, but a uncontrolled smile creeps upon his face. You're in.

"Ahas! Gujoy, bethank ye!"

OOC: Sorry for the delay in response; was having a difficult time getting ready for work this morning. I'll post again when I get home.

Malazek wrote:"'Profess'ins? An what nots?' Me? ... uhh ... hearse driver." He glares at Vangg with palpable hatred, probably due to the ancestral hatred borne between Dwarves and Goblins.

But the promise of money seems to motivate the gnarly goblin, and no complaint is muttered as the party piles into his quarters looking for places to bed for the night. The noise of the bustling street outside continues to filter in, showing no sign of slowing for the night.

Juugug places his bedroll close to the door.

Eventually, Gujoy heads off to one of the backrooms. When he does, Juugug whispers, "Le's nigh be an fooled in dis matter; e'll betrayeth us when it 'curs ta 'im dat he can kills us an' taketh the gilds e's been apromised."

Straegis will set up his bedroll very close to Gujoy's door for the evening. He will alternate his time between rest, copying a portion of another ritual, and most importantly keeping a keen ear on Gujoy.

O.O.C.: Ummm, hmmm...Did Vangg power word kill him? No wait, he is undead goblin hearse driver. I want his job! Perhaps another night of alternating watches due to our circumstances here?

Davin slips out the front door. The streets are still filled with Goblins and other folk, but the Elf moves quickly and quietly. Ducking behind pillars and boxes and other objects, he heads to the side of the dwelling, and peers down the narrow alley. He watches as Gujoy climbs out the window, and moves away from the street.

Inside, Straegis waits a moment, and then checks the door; it's locked. Throwing his weight into it, Straegis shoulders the door open. The tiny room is filthy, but Gujoy is gone! The open window provides a hint as to where he went.

Verity wrote:Does the commotion wake the rest of us?
Verity finds himself suddenly awake. After a moment of consideration, he thinks he heard a loud bang. He sits up and looks around, but he doesn't see Straegis or Davin anywhere. Wasn't this their watch?

*Really? He sleeps in his heavy armor? I assumed he doft it at night, and donned in the morn.

Verity wrote:Seeing Gujoy’s door now open, Verity jumps to his feet and moves to investigate, whereupon he bumps into Straegis. “What’s happened?” he asks the Marshal, just as he notices the light cast through the open window illuminates an empty bed.
Straegis explains; he suspects Gujoy has slipped out the window with the intention of betraying the party.

OOC: Mack is in Vegas. I'll post for him for a couple days.

The next door is unlocked, but the room behind is just a small pantry; nobody is inside. But a light pours from the door at the end of the hall, as Azzy opens it to find out why Verity is calling for him.

O.O.C. - Was out of town for the weekend without internet; sorry for the lack of posts.

Davin pulls an arrow, takes quick aim, and snaps off a shot at the goblins inner thigh, attempting to slash the major artery there.

Minor - Designate Gujoy as my HQ
Standard - Hunter's Bear Trap Gujoy, pulling my punch to subdue
Move - Move over to the Goblin

Hunter's Bear Trap=35 (natch!)
HBT Damage=33
HQ Damage=8
Natch Damage=2

Assuming this fells the Goblin, Davin will race over to Gujoy and apply pressure to the wound, quickly tying a bandage (from his supply of shirt-strips) around his thigh to stop him from expiring. Then the Ranger will hoist the Goblin back through the window he exited, handing him to Straegis before following.

“I was just thinking how we forgot to spar. Also there’s the small matter of a goblin trying to kill us all for profit.”

Verity watches as Davin unceremoniously passes a paler Gujoy through the window to Straegis.

"That takes care of that." He stares a moment as the Ranger begins binding Gujoy.

"I'll be back. For now get some rest. Also, it couldn't hurt to block that outside door." he tells Azraelbenzariel.

Back in the common room he quietly wakes Juugug and motions for the Cleric, Straegis and Davin to join him in Gujoy's room.

"It occurs to me that we don't want murderous bandits knifing us in the back and making off with our belongings. Who knows how many assassins this one sought to set against us just now. It shall be no different when we leave. We could drag him with us, but we all know how that worked out for Snorri. Too, his fellow Goblins might protest to see one of their own led off as prisoner. Equally cruel would be leaving him here to starve, bound to his own bed.

"There is a better option. He favors Bane and Bane favors trial by combat.

"Azraelbenzariel has matured at lightning speed. It is time he learns his Goddess-given purpose in the eternal cycle of the natural world.

"It is as though a mortal trial were pre-ordained."

He looks levelly at his three companions awaiting their thoughts.

Straegis concurs. He finds the idea of forcing someone into an unwilling death match rather unsavory; but if the wretched Goblin prefers it that way, then so be it.
